Successful Conclusion of the BRITAs’ Roundtable in Hengqin 2026

From 14th to 15th April, the Belt and Road Initiative Tax Administration Cooperation Mechanism(BRITACOM) successfully held the Belt and Road Initiative Tax Academies’(BRITAs’) Roundtable in Hengqin, Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Cooperation Zone. Representatives from six BRITAs including BRITA•Algeria, BRITA•Astana, BRITA•Beijing, BRITA•Macao, BRITA•Riyadh and BRITA•Yangzhou attended the event. Meanwhile, tax administrations of relevant jurisdictions, as well as international organizations and the Belt and Road Initiative Tax Administration Capacity Enhancement Group (BRITACEG) experts, participated in the event either on-site or online.
 
 
The two-day event was productive.Mr. Wang Daoshu, Executive Secretary of BRITACOM Secretariat, delivered opening remarks, extending sincere greetings and warm welcome to all attendees. He also introduced the progress of BRITACEG, which has built a closer platform to enhance tax administration capacity of BRI jurisdictions. 
 
A significant agenda item was the transition of the Director of BRITACEG. Mr. Iong Kong Leong, Director of BRITACEG, has stepped down from his position as Director of Financial Services Bureau of Macao, China and retired. In accordance with the relevant provisions of the MoU on the BRITACOM, and with the unanimous consent of the Council Members of the BRITACOM, Ms. Ho Silvestre In Mui, Director of Financial Services Bureau of Macao, China succeeds Mr. Iong Kong Leong as the Director of the BRITACEG. Mr. Wang Daoshu announced the appointment and presented a certificate of honor to Mr. Iong Kong Leong in recognition of his dedication and remarkable achievements during his term of office. Meanwhile, Ms. Ho Silvestre In Mui delivered an inaugural speech, stating that she will focus on the digital transformation of tax administration and tax certainty in the future, and strive to push the development of the BRITACEG to a new level.
 
 
During the experience exchange session, representatives from all BRITAs introduced their institutes, daily operation, training practices and future development plans. They shared fruitful outcomes in tax capacity building and international exchange, and put forward ideas for further improvement.
 
 
Representatives from international organizations and relevant stakeholders also introduced areas of cooperation and held in-depth discussions on training development, curriculum building and expert resources, offering valuable suggestions to BRITACEG and BRITAs. Participants also conducted in-depth exchanges on BRITACEG training, curriculum system, rules and regulations and other key work, putting forward constructive comments for the high-quality development of BRITAs.
 
As an important gathering of BRITAs, this event is a significant milestone in the progress of BRITACOM. BRITACOM expects more in-depth exchanges and closer cooperation among all parties to jointly promote the sustainable development of BRITAs and build a stronger global tax capacity development network.
